About the tour
Included in the total tour package is safari vehicle transport for the duration of the stay, as well as air-conditioned microbuses, three breakfasts and three dinners. Guests are reminded to allow for a budget of $40 US for meals not included.
Additionally included are all game drives and night drives conducted in open 4 x 4 vehicles within the Kruger National Park, facilitated nature walks in the private reserve, an organised visit to a local cultural village, where a traditional meal will be served, and the final, scenic drive through the Panoramic Route, via the
Blyde River Canyon
and Three Rondawels.
Accommodation
Accommodation for the first night of the safari is provided in the Thornhill Safari Lodge, with en-suite chalets and safari tents for the first night, followed by camping facilities for the last two. Permanent dome tents and sleeping bag bedding are provided.
Keep in mind that accommodation is subject to availability at time of booking, but alternatives are available and packages will be adjusted accordingly.
Important Info & Warnings
The group departs Johannesburg extremely early on the first day and arrives back late in the afternoon on day four, making it important to book into Johannesburg the day before the tour.
As dictated by Kruger National Park safety regulations, children under the age of sixteen are not permitted on the bush walks in this itinerary.
Attractions
Attractions include the stop near the Drakensberg Escarpment to view the Three Rondawels and
Blyde River Canyon
, as well as treks and drives around some of the park's more rewarding bird watching and animal tracks.
Optional activities include visits to the Kapama Cheetah Rehabilitation Centre, Moholoholo Endangered Specie Centre, microlight flights, the Mafunyani Cultural Village Experience, specialised Big Five game drives, elephant back safaris, and hot air balloon flights.
Wildlife
Kruger National Park is popular for its population of the Big Five, which includes lions, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos and elephants.
Day 1
• After arriving in the park, the group sets out aboard open safari vehicles for a game drive en-route to the camp, soaking in the scenic African bush as they proceed
• Once settled at camp, the group once again ventures out into the bush on a sunset game drive where they will have the opportunity to track the nocturnal park inhabitants with the aid of high powered spot-lighting
• Upon return, guests enjoy a traditional African meal served around a warm fire, before retiring for the evening
Day 2
• Following an early wake up call, for the next two days, the group departs at first light for a game drive
• This game drive takes in some of the best routes within the park, putting the park's landscapes and ecosystems on display, as well as providing viewing for the park's plentiful wildlife and bird populations
• Guests return to camp as the day begins to wane, enjoying a delicious meal before turning in
• Day three features a midday excursion to a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger Area
Day 3
• Following an early wake up call, for the next two days, the group departs at first light for a game drive
• This game drive takes in some of the best routes within the park, putting the park's landscapes and ecosystems on display, as well as providing viewing for the park's plentiful wildlife and bird populations
• Guests return to camp as the day begins to wane, enjoying a delicious meal before turning in
• Day three features a midday excursion to a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger Area
Day 4
• Day four begins with the group's last early morning game excursion, a guided walk overseen by a qualified nature guide, whereupon guests have access to a wealth of information about spoor identification, as well as bird and tree varieties
• Breakfast is followed by the group's departure, travelling through the Mpumalanga Province and along the Drakensberg Escarpment, the gorgeous Panoramic Route home to the Three Rondawels and
Blyde River Canyon
. The Safari draws to a close as the guests are dropped off at Amadwala Lodge, Johannesburg
