About the tour
Included in the four day walking safari are safari vehicle transport on guided game drives through the park, three nights at unfenced Big Five safari camps in the Manyeleti Game Reserve, and a set of guided game walks, conducted by well trained, professional guides. A laundry facility is also available at the camp site, and three breakfasts, three lunches, and three dinners are provided during the course of the trip.
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided at Thornhill Lodge in the form of permanent safari tents. Thatched or rubberized canvas roofs cover these quaint units, each with its own en-suite bathroom. Each tent sleeps two people on stretcher beds, with bedding and towels provided.
Accommodation is always subject to availability at booking, and should it be fully booked, the closest available alternative will be substituted. Tour prices may incur deductions or supplements as a result, depending on the nature of the alterations.
Important Info & Warnings
The group departs Johannesburg etremely early on the first day and arrives back late in the afternoon on day four, making it important to book into Johannesburg the day before the tour.
As dictated by Kruger National Park safety regulations, children under the age of sixteen are not permitted on the bush walks in this itinerary.
Wildlife
Lions, elephants, leopards, rhino and buffalo, as well as vervet monkeys are a few of the park's local residents and can be readily spotted during driving and walking trips. Vegetation is exhibited in a lush, radiant and subtropical garden, sporting numerous bougainvilleas, palms and cycads.
Attractions
Attractions include the stop near the Drakensberg Escarpment to view the Three Rondawels and
Blyde River Canyon
, as well as treks and drives around some of the park's more rewarding bird watching and animal tracks.
Day 1
• The group makes an early start from Jonhannesburg to the Greater Kruger's Manyeleti Game Reserve
• Travelling in open game-viewing vehicles, guests spend the trip to the unfenced Pungwe Safari Camp spotting game and being informed about the area
• Arriving in time for refreshments, the group spends a few minutes getting settled before the resident field guide briefs them on the next four day's activities
• From here, the group sets off on a two-to-three-hour, late afternoon game drive, stretching on into the evening, before returning to camp for dinner, the ambiance of a crackling fire, and retiring for the evening
Day 2
• After an early-morning wake up call, and a brief update on the particulars of the morning trail, the group heads out on walking safari, normally lasting around three hours (but often sidetracking at the site of animal tracks or spoor and lasting much longer)
• Around mid morning, guests return to camp, freshen up, and sit down to a delicious brunch. Mid day sees our intrepid safari goers settling in to laze around the camp grounds, or under the Lapa with a cup of tea or coffee
• In the afternoon guests are taken on another exciting game drive, followed by an evening round of sundowners, and the torch-lit guided evening game drive, where guests can track the movements of predators prowling in the dark
• Return to camp and enjoy your dinner, served al fresco, before turning in for the night
• - No formal lunch is served, only light refreshments before the afternoon / evening drive -
