Exeter Game Lodge is situated within 65 000 hectares of prime "Big Five" Sabi Sand Game Reserve, bordering the Kruger National Park. Ensuring some of the finest game viewing in the world, you cross paths with the "Big Five" on the ultimate Land Rover experience. Highly experienced game rangers and trackers will be your guides, with comfortable open Land Rovers for transportation. The interaction with ranger and tracker will be the highlight of your introduction to extensive legendary bush knowledge. Game is abundant - lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant and cheetah, to name but a few, as well as a varied birdlife.
In addition to the magnificent accommodation, Exeter provides comforts such as a swimming pool with stunning views of the Sand River, comfortable lounges, a well-appointed curio shop and beautiful landscaped gardens. Sumptuous meals suiting all culinary tastes and prepared by our Executive Chef, are served in the boma, in the lapa overlooking the Sand River and the savanna beyond or on a riverbank in the bush.
A unique conference room, situated on the banks of the Sand River, is designed to accommodate up to 30 delegates. State of the art equipment includes a VCR and monitor, overhead projector, proxima slide projector, flip chart and whiteboard. A business centre offering internet and e-mail access, fax, photocopier and secretarial services is also available. The area is covered by cell phone signals. Mid-morning and afternoon breaks may be taken in the shade of a grove of ebony trees overlooking a hippo pool.
A brief overview:
Game Drives
River Lodge is "Big Game" country, and the area is world-renowned as the best venue for close up sightings of Africa 's great cats - lion, leopard and cheetah.
Open vehicle game drives with professional rangers and trackers allow you to experience wildlife at its finest.
Relax at the Lodge, enjoy a lazy afternoon siesta, suntan around the pool or visit our interestingly appointed curio shop which houses all that a discerning "bush shopper" may require!
Evenings: Dinner is served in a number of locations to experience the magic of an African evening. Plated meals are presented in the elegant dining room or the open deck under the magnificent African sky, alternatively traditional braais (barbeques) are enjoyed in the security of the Boma around a roaring fire.
Walking Safaris
An experienced Ranger and Tracker will lead you on the ultimate bush experience where you may have the opportunity to track one or more of Africa's Big Five. Walks also give our guests a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the abundant birdlife, fauna, flora and to explore the fascinating insect life. At Exeter we would like your safari experience to be perfect. We have therefore put together a list of items we suggest you should bring along:
From October to April, bring casual summer clothes. A warm jersey/sweater would be useful for the cooler morning and evening temperatures.
From May to September, bring casual light clothing, but remember to bring a very warm, insulated or padded parka/jacket for the very cold mornings and nights – a scarf and gloves are very useful too!
Cotton clothing in neutral colours is recommended and keep whites to a minimum, as white attracts certain bugs at night!
Comfortable walking shoes, track shoes or boots for the bush walks makes life so much easier.
Sandals to wear around your private pool, at meals and within the lodge area.
Shorts for the walks and the warm midday periods.
Swimming costumes.
Sun block / sun hat / sunglasses / lip balm.
Extra pair of correction glasses (if you wear them).
Contact lens solution and an extra set of contact lenses (if required).
Cameras, binoculars and lots of film (film is also available at the curio shop, should you run out)
Video camera and a spare battery. (Batteries can be recharged in your suite. Electricity voltage is 220v - Converters and spare videocassettes are available on request).
