Sabi Sabi Game Reserve
Selati Lodge
On the banks of the Msuthlu riverbed, Selati Lodge is strategically situated between the Sabie and Sand rivers on the traditional game migration path from the Kruger National Park. Left deliberately without electricity, Selati is lit at night by the flicker of paraffin lamps, the warm glow of fires and the spectacular canopy of the Southern night sky. The cottages are built of stone and thatch, blending perfectly into the surrounding bush.
There is a full bar service and home cooked cuisine is served on decks built over the riverbed. Dinner is in the open air “boma” or in the “farmhouse kitchen”. This exquisite jewel of the bushveld is an ideal refuge for the nature lover, as well as for small groups who may reserve the entire lodge for total privacy.
The eight luxury thatched suites each with full bathroom en-suite and private al-fresco shower, blend perfectly into the surrounding bush. Home cooked cuisine is served on decks built over the riverbed, in the open air ‘boma’ or in the ‘farmhouse kitchen’. Today the line is disused but the old rail bed can still be seen in the north eastern section of Sabi Sabi, close to Selati Lodge.
Sabi Sabi’s intimate Selati lodge, furnished with a historic Railway theme and turn-of-the-century charm, meticulously created as an authentic home in the bush, is the most unforgettable of all African experiences. The railway theme extends from original steam engine nameplates, signals and other memorabilia in the lounge, to collectors pieces in each room and shunters lamps lighting the way to your suite.
Each suite, including the Lourenco Marques Honeymoon Suite and Ivory Presidential Suite, has full bathroom en-suite and private al-fresco shower. Genuine antiques are intriguing historical features. The atmosphere of a bygone era is subtly accentuated,
while 20th century comfort is provided through air-conditioning and overhead fans.
