Steeped in the history of the San people and Nguni groups who once inhabited its soil, the Giant's Castle Game Reserve is home to one of the best preserved sites of prehistoric rock art in the world. Part of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, and a World Heritage Site, the area is a prime destination for eco-tourism and one of the world’s truly pristine great open spaces.

Giant's Castle mountain peak is so called because its shape resembles the profile of a sleeping giant. The camp is located in the grassy terrain below this giant, surrounded by the cascading peaks and valleys of the High Drakensberg.
