The north eastern Free State's Maluti Mountain range rests gently against
Golden Gate Highlands National Park
. From here, the arresting Brandwag overhang radiates a glorious golden hue (leaving no question as to where the park aquired its name or why) as it stands sentry over Glen Reenen rest camp.
Hiking trails snake in and around the area, allowing the enthusiastic game or bird watcher ample viewing from the privacy of their own vehicle (or horseback, if they prefer).
