Indigenous animals in the
Karoo area include Burchell’s Zebra (with Quagga bred characteristics), gemsbok, eland, Black Rhinoceros, vervet monkey and many others.
For bird watchers, the area produces Karoo Korhaan, Ludwig’s Bustard and Namaqua Sandgrouse, while the campsites specifically yield Acacia Pied Barbet, Red-eyed Bulbul, Karoo Scrub Robin, Cape Robin-chat, Chestnut-vented Tit-babbler, Layard’s Tit-babbler, Yellow-bellied Eremomola, and a host more.
A selection of local vegetation yields Montane Karoo grassy shrublands, Karoo grassy dwarf shrublands, Karoo succulent dwarf shrublands, and riparian thicket, as well as and Motane Karoo dwarf shrublands away from the escarpment.
