Letaba Restcamp - Wildlife & Vegetation
(129
reviews)
Most of the Kruger National Park’s larger mammals can be seen in the
Letaba vicinity, although it is not good rhino country. Elephant abound, particularly in the Letaba riverbed. Waterbuck and buffalo are also plentiful. Lion and cheetah kills have been known in the past to take place within plain view of the camp and its residents. Extremely tame bushbucks wander freely amongst the bungalows, along with tree squirrels, fruit bats and vervet monkeys.
Pearl-spotted and African Barred Owlets, and African Scops-Owl are familiar inhabitants of the camp area. Green-capped Eremomela are to be spotted, and, like most camps in the central and northern parts of the park, Mourning Dove is particularly prominent.
A well foliated, riverine camp, Letaba has a large selection of trees and shrubs, including sycamore fig, impala lily, common coral tree, lala palm and leadwood. Mopane shrubland surrounds the camp.
