Review

"We enjoyed the new camp. Lovely equipped houses. I would like to make a suggestion of perhaps put in a swimming pool. Currently you need to drive all the way to the main camp to swim. Especially when it is very hot and that should be most of the times."

Relaxing Weekend

"I must say my family and I had a great weekend at the national park. The kids were simply ecstatic about the different animals they saw but just a bit disappointed about seeing only one lion but nonetheless they enjoyed it. The accommodation was excellent quite cozy. We will definitely be back soon."

Need more animals

"Hi there,

On a positive the cottage was great and we enjoyed the evenings around the fire, however this was our second visit to the park and must say again were disappointed with the amount of animals in the park. Entrance fees and accommodation prices are more or less the same than "Kruger" but you don't get the same satisfaction.

Regards
Fanie & Chantel Steyn"

Camp Matyholweni Rest Camp Review

"From the initial booking phase right up to the booking out phase on our last day, I have nothing but praise for SA National Parks. The service was at all times friendly, helpful and professional, the accommodation was stylish, clean, spacious, luxurious and perfectly located. The Main Camp Restaurant and Shop were very reasonably priced and well stocked. The Night Game Drive was a highlight, our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. Camp Motyholweni is located in the Southern part of the camp, if you do intend to do a night game drive, keep in mind you will not be able to return to your camp through the park, you will have to drive around the park, a minor inconvenience considering the absolute pleasure of the night game drive. We enjoyed the fact that our camp was not amidst the hussle and the bustle of the Main Camp. We will definitely return and have recommended the camp to all our friends and family."

Mathyolweni Restcamp

"We had a very pleasant stay, The accommodation was good, clean and comfortable, could not ask for more. Had good viewing, mostly in the north of the reserve. we wanted to have a look at the Marine section on our way out and to have a picnic lunch there. Asked for a map but none were available and verbal directions were poor.We drove for ages not seeing a sign, so we drove home. Disappointing. Thank you"

Addo Park Experience

"We had a great experience in the park except for getting lost in the dark on the second day without an emergency contact number and being confronted by elephants. We were also happy to see 4 of the big 5. We did not like the fact that we had a field mouse in our house who ran around on the cupboards at night."

Addo Elephant Park experience

"We enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was very good. Would have liked to do a night or sunset drive, but was not prepared to drive out of the park and do a round about trip to enter at Matyholweni again."

Awesome

"The new camp is now the best from an access perspective, being so close to the Sundays River entrance.

With the gate removed there is no time constraints to enter the main park area. The animals have moved down south, with herds of buffalo, elephant and two hyena spotted in close proximity to the camp.

DSTV is now included in the units, to make it an all round sensational holiday."

A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN

"Wow! Who needs to travel miles to the Kruger when one can see it all in the Eastern Cape at Addo. The new Matyholweni camp is amazingly well equipped and comfortable. We loved being in a smaller camp, hidden in the natural bush, away from the hustle and bustle of the main camp. With Colechester down the road, one can still get everything you need. Bravo National Parks!"

comments on 2 nights at Matyholweni

"Saw a caracal. really enjoyed our first stay at this end of Addo, cottage very nice, staff at office excellent, TV in cottage very bad, always going off, and a ridiculous selection of programs, could get Al Jezeera and also Islam TV but no news channel or 120"

Mathyolweni Restcamp

"One of the best appointed and placed accommodation units in all your parks.
Very perturbed at number of tourists who climb out of their vehicles or lean out very far for photos. I feel that SANP owe it to all of us and our environment and animals to be harsher in the execution of its rules on this regard.
All in all a most enjoyable experience."

Permit

"We had a great time at the camp, which was exceptionally clean and well kept. My only suggestion was that we arrived after 5 on Sunday evening, and the office was closed. We could not get our permit until after 7 on Monday. However, we were told that in spite of only having the permit for one night, we had to pay to for two nights even though we could not access the area."

Relaxing Getaway

"I arranged the trip as a surprise for my husband's birthday so that we could get away from the mad rush and relax and enjoy ourselves in the bush, somewhere not too far from PE. (We have a 1 yr old boy that normally keeps us very busy). We both enjoy the outdoors and wildlife so it was wonderful to experience seeing all the animals in the park and getting back to our private thatched chalet to relax with a good red wine around a warm fire under the stars. A much needed break, which went far too quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed it - thank you!"

Beautiful!

"The small thatched cottages are barely visible above the surrounding bush and all you can see from you private balcony are the surrounding hills. A big plus is the braai place (BBQ) on your balcony. There are no shops/restuarants at the camp which is a plus as the atmosphere remains calm and all one hears are the birds. Highly recommended for nature lovers and for those just wanting some peace and quiet."
