The Colchester area hosts specifically bush-orientated groups of wildlife, including kudu, bushbuck, caracal, bushpig and warthog. Larger species have been introduced into the area since 2009, such as Burchell’s zebra, red hartebeest and buffalo, with plans to introduce elephant, lion and ostrich in the future.

The Mathyolweni Rest Camp area's vegetation is primarily Albany Thicket.
