A Place Worth Visiting

"Although being a KZN resident all my life, I had always heard of Umfolozi, never too much of Mkhuze. We booked in there because Umfolozi was full. What a wonderful surprise. It was worth every minute. Peaceful, the roads were not like main highways, the birdlife was exceptional, and the pans were an absolute joy. We packed a picnic basket and sat under the shady trees, on the banks of the large lakes filled with hippos and water birds. The sunsets were amazing. The staff were friendly, prompt to assist, and knowledgeable. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay at Mantuma camp in a chalet. The chalets are well equipped, mosquito proofed and comfortable. We will definitely return."

Mkhuze - A Bush Paradise

"My wife and I spent a memorable 2 nights at the Matuma tented camp and while we didn't see a huge amount of game or birds, we thoroughly enjoyed driving through this beautiful reserve, appreciating especially the magnificent fever trees. Our tent was extremely comfortable and the kitchen amenities more than adequate. We came to relax and chill and this is precisely what we were able to do. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We will definitely be back for more!"

MKUZE - A wild life experience whose capacity are totally underestimated!

"We had a wonderful time in Mkuze and I have to mention two people who really contributed to the experience: Joel (our cook) and Patrick (Our ranger). However, less good experiences has been with the receptionist at the main camp - who either did not know what she was doing or has been extremely lazy!!!!! The bushcamp in which we stayed were well equipped, although it needs serious maintenance ! Even the main camp facilities need serious upkeep - especially at the swimmingpool.
When we booked we were told that we will have a ranger, as well as a cook to our use. However, when we arrived and tried to book the ranger for an early morning walk the following day, we were told only two places were available, since our ranger had to cover for everyone! We were extremely disappointed as we had guests who have never been in a game park before. Then we booked for the following day, but had been told that we have to use our own vehicles to get to the spot where the hike starts? We were also not informed that we have to take our own refreshments on these hikes! All other hikes in game parks we have been on before has provide these and we were caught unprepared. Being the new years weekend, it was not possible to get the refreshments easily, as the shop are really poorly stocked.
We have been shocked to see the animals fight for water at the hide and when it has been reported, the ranger told us that they only pumped once in 24 hours! It is heart breaking to see animals like Rhino's, buffalo, zebra, blue wildebeest and baboons attacking each other for their need to get some water!

The hike in the fig forest has been a wonderful experience and our ranger were really knowledgable on the vegetation and folklore surrounding the healing effects of certain plants!"
