Situated on the banks of the Mkuze River in the midst of a spectacular and unique sand forest, Mkuze is a place of natural beauty and an abundance of breathtaking wildlife. With more than 420 bird species recorded, the area is a veritable paradise for bird-watching, it is also home to an astonishing diversity of natural surroundings and wildlife, including Black and White Rhinoceroses, giraffes, elephants, leopards, and buffaloes. Over one hundred kilometers of road stretch from the eastern inclines of the Lebombo Mountains along the eastern border or the reserve, and over comprehensive stretches of acacia savanna, swamps and a selection of woodlands and riverine jungle.

Although being a KZN resident all my life, I had always heard of Umfolozi, never too much of Mkhuze. We booked in there because Umfolozi was full. What a wonderful surprise. It was worth every minute. Peaceful, the roads were not like main highways, the birdlife was exceptional, and the pans were an absolute joy. We packed a picnic basket and sat under the shady trees, on the banks of the large lakes filled with hippos and water birds. The sunsets were amazing. The staff were friendly, prompt to assist, and knowledgeable. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay at Mantuma camp in a chalet. The chalets are well equipped, mosquito proofed and comfortable. We will definitely return.
