Mopani Restcamp - Wildlife & Vegetation
(65
reviews)
From the lookout point in
Mopani Camp, or at the nearby balcony of the ladies bar, guests are treated to a privileged view of hippos, waterbuck, impala, warthogs, elephants, buffalo and occasionally lion.
The Tropic of Capricorn loop and the Nshawu pans areas allow for game viewing from open plains which host blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, buffalo and the rarer tsessebe, as well as the smaller Black-Backed Jackal and caracal.
Bird watching is centred on the Pioneer Dam, where storks, egrets, kingfishers and African Fish Eagles are to be seen, with occasional appearances from white Collared (Red-winged) Pratincole, African Spoonbill, Black-winged Stilt and White-winged Tern.
The granite soil in the area hosts mixed bush willow, silver cluster-leaf and tree and shrub mopane, while gneiss soil combines apple-leaf with shrub mopane. Large knob-thorn, tamboti and leadwood are found along the drainage lines.
