Stay Over for Durban Tripsters to CapeTown

"We travelled to Cradock from Durban via Umtata on a Wednesday and found the route a most enjoyable alternative to the conventional route through Bloemfontein. The Family Cottage was spotlessly prepared and had all that we could wish for.The Park was beautiful as we arrived during a rain storm on the one side while there was sunshine on the other..It was Karoo at its best...fabulaous landscape scenery..and then we drove into the area not frequented by buck...and enjoyed fjording the streams which were about 300mm above the culverts...then we had the joy of an absolutely clear view of the Milky-way...after our well prepared steak in the Restaurant. How about some Venison on the main course next time...like at Beaufort National Park where it was fantastic!"

Gotta get back there

"Both the person manning the entrance and Jeannie (?) at reception were well informed and conveyed information on animal whereabouts with clarity and friendliness. Accommodation comfortable although attention needs to be given to ongoing maintenance"

Mountain Zebra National Park

"We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The booking, reception and maintenance of the park and roads was excellent. The farmhouse at Doornkloof was very comfortable. A shower - preferably outside would make it perfect."

Mountain Zebra National Park

"The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our unit was well-equipped and clean. The sliding door in the lounge sticks.

We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant. The pool was sparkling, but the pool ladder has no steps! The Parks' setting is beautiful and the scenery varied. We saw great game. We will definitely be back."

Mountain Zebra experience

"A beautiful and restful environment for a stopover. We loved the park and the pool. The service was exceptional, and the food was lovely! The room could have been a bit cleaner but perfectly sized and very comfortable."

Ten Out Of Ten

"As I said to the efficient and extremely pleasant staff member at the exit gate when we left Mountain Zebra Park, "Well done - ten out of ten - the best SA Nat Park I can remember for many many years" His face lit up with a proud smile.

Everything was spot on. The friendly staff. The clean chalet. The perfectly maintained roads. No broken or missing crockery or cutlery. Everything perfect.

My suggestion is to get all management at our flag-ship park, The Kruger, which has slipped badly over the years, to visit the Mountain Zebra Park, to see how a National Park can, and should be run.

Our stay was an absolute pleasure. Well done to all concerned."

Wonderful to be home

"We just returned to SA having spent time working in NZ where we were so so home sick. Enroute to Plet we decided we had to have a game and scenic injection. It was magnificent. The most breathtaking scenery, wonderful game including a mother cheetah and her 3 teenage cubs. Mountain Zebra does not have huge quantities of game so go there to experience everything and you will not be disappointed. The bungalows were clean, well equiped and a lovely fire place for the bitterly cold night. Well managed and wonderful friendly people."

R W Kirby comments

"We arrived just as a massive cold front arrived in the Eastern Cape. There is no heating facility to warm up the chelt but I guess the cost of electricity would be prohibitive.

The wood purchased from the front office was of a very poor quality and burnt away very quickly in the indoor fire place. Try and lay in a stock of proper hard wood (thornwood).

Great that the staff had made DSTV available for soccer fans to watch the matches in the conference centre. Regards"

A holiday worth repeating!

"Thank you so much for an exceptional stay. My only disappointment was that it was so short. But we'll be back, and I've told my friends about the friendly, courteous, efficient and discreet service displayed by all staff.

Our meal at your restaurant was also memorably pleasant. Both the Hors d'œuvre and the main course were excellent and the general service in your restaurant was of a noticeably higher level than another National Park at which we stayed a few days later.

See you again SOON!"

Family Cottage

"For a one night stop over the family cottage was ok. On arrival the cottage was all closed up and very hot, perhaps the windows could be opended to air the cottage before guests arrive. Half our party stayed in the guest house which was very well furnished...alot more luxurious than the family cottage."

Awesome

"Our visit started well with a cheerful welcome at the entrance gate and when we checked into the chalet. A game drive on the plateau, Rooiplaat Loop, gave us a clear overview of the size of the park and the magnificent open areas which would be ideal for Cheetah (we missed seeing them). Our second game drive on Saturday was to the south-east, Kranskop Loop, in the more mountainous area, a different and very impressive experience seeing a black eagle soaring below us. This trip gave us an understanding of how well the park is maintained with excellent roads engineered perfectly to cater for runoff water without unnecessary damage being inflicted. We returned via the plateau and drove the Ubejane loop glimpsing black rhino and buffalo, but also enjoying the birdlife, monitor lizards and ground squirrels. The mountain zebra are special and the animals together with the awesome setting of the park make for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and should have stayed at least an extra day.
Thank you San Parks.
Kind regards"

Camping December 2009

"Camping was very nice but very hot. We wanted so badly to see a Cheetah and Buffalo, but we could not find any. Swimming place is too far from camping site."

Mountain Zebra National Park

"I last visited Mountain Zebra Park 11 years ago and had forgotten how spectacular the scenery is! I was impressed at how well the roads are being maintained. The Guest House has also been very well maintained and is a very special place to stay in. Game viewing was good too - we saw an aardwolf that I'd never seen before. The Gemsbok are also lovely buck to have in the park. Our visit was very enjoyable and I am recommending the park to friends and colleagues."

"All the administrative staff we encountered were Very pleasant and helpful eg Thula who had to drive from the camp to meet us when we arrived from Durban at 8.00pm.

Mountain Zebra Park

"The family cottages were clean and neat. All the necessary cutlery and crockery were available. The resort was tidy and I noticed that the area was being upgraded, always a good sign. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the rides through the park and enjoyed the animals. A wonderful place to relax and I would consider a future visit in the summer."

Unbelievable - what a trip!!

"In my 38 years of marriage this is the first time me and my husband have been in a game reserve.
This was unbelievable. The chalets are very nice and cosy. The views and animals are stunning. I found a lot of people just rush through. Drive slower and you will notice more; even smaller animals. We took a flask of coffee and some food on our drive through the park and really enjoyed the days. I would recommend it to anybody. Have already told lots of people who did not even know about the park. Even with the list given we saw more animals. "Duikers", "Likkewaan", Jackals, Vultures, Small apes, a long sort of Earthworm? about a meter and longer. Lots of different birds. Kranskop! what a view."
