Olifants Restcamp

"Despite the flooding which kept us in camp for a day it was a pleasant experience and the staff was very helpful."

Floods

"The accommodation was good, the service great and the staff very friendly. We were there during the floods which placed enormous strain on them, as there was no electricity for a day and no cellphone signal, sinkholes in the road and limited access to the park. While you can do nothing about a natural disaster there is one BIG fault at Olifants Camp which you can address. There is no drainage in and around the restaurant building. All the rainwater simply floods straight down the entrance walkway through the lobby, shop, restaurant,, verandah and flows down the hill. It is a basic design mistake that is eaily rectified, but had a huge impact on the daily operations. Staff spend most of the day bailing water and mopping up as the water just kept on flowing through the building. Guests were left with erratic service because staff were too busy trying to clean up. Get your engineers/builders/architects in to put in some drainage."

Great Nature but Poor Service!

"We had an amazing time out on Safari and saw some great sights, being lucky enough to see all of the big five!
What really let the trip down were the following issues:

-When we checked into Olifants I had a problem with my bank card so could not pay the park entry fee there and then, I explained this to the man at reception and said I would have to go and call my bank. I got the problem sorted and returned to pay the fee the following morning, the same man (a heavy set man, looked like he was in his 30's)was extremely rude, he stared at both me and my wife and said that we were a problem and that he had got in trouble with his boss because we did not pay straight away. I apologised for the delay but he refused to accept my apology and just put his hand under my nose for the money. His attitude was disgusting and was the worst guest service I have ever experienced, which was very disappointing as up until then I had found everyone in SA to be very friendly and polite.
-The second main issue was that on the last night day of our stay in Olifants, I had left £60 in British Currency in our room as I thought it would be safe. Unfortunately it was not and whoever had entered our room that day to tidy appears to have taken the money, which left us very disappointed and upset.

Overall the trip was amazing due to the wildlife but the guest service was poor and very disappointing.

Regards

Craig Kennedy"

Restuarant Service

"I found the restaurant food was not fresh (sandwiches take way)

Menu for New Years Eve was shocking.

Service can be jacked up some what."

Excellent experience

"The processes like registration and departure worked well at Olifants Camp and the personnel were friendly and helpful. The bungalow was clean and well kept and, of course, Olifants camp is the most beautiful camp in the Kruger Park.

What was really funny and enjoyable was that we passed speedtraps twice and although we were laughing that there are speedtraps in the Kruger Park, it is also a pity that the human nature requires to be disciplined to respect nature.
Thank you for a good experience - will revisit soon"

Experience

"Everything was well managed and I was pleased with mostly everything. We had a wonderful time. We however had bats in our room every night and even left the light on to see if they wont enter but it did not help. Not sure how they get in though."

Stay in Kruger National Park

"We were helped very nicely with the bookings and vouchers.

We found that they do not take care of the rest camps in the Kruger National Park. They do not cut the grass. The bathrooms for at the picnic spots and daily visitor sites are dirty.

The take away food preparing kitchens are dirty and the food is very expensive and not up to standard."

Review of Kruger Park rest camps.

"At Olifants we stayed in a bungalow with no utensils so we got up early to use the urn in the communal facility. The urn was broken and didn't seem to have been working for a while. The communal facility was dirty as well. The camo just looks run down."

Olifants Restcamp

"Same as above. We saw many rats though running around the back of the restaurant, difficult to control. Staff friendly. Bit of a shame that the staff music was being played so loudly I had to ask reception for help, they were very efficient and within 5 minutes the music had been turned off."

Olifants Restcamp

"We stayed 1 night at Olifants camp and 2 other nights elsewhere in the Park. Although I did not expect more, compared with the other camps and being the most expensive of the lot, I honestly cannot rave about it. It needs a revamp! Most off putting although was the pungent smell in the restaurant and shop area of - I think - monkey urine...absolutely terrible! You are welcome to contact me if you need any further comments."

1 relaxing night in Olifants

"My husband and I had our first night in Kruger at the Olifants rest camp. Our bungalow was clean, with basic amenities. We arrived late, around 6pm and had a lovely Braai and listened to the lions roar in the distance. Olifants is a lovely smaller sized camp with everything you need for a nice stay."

Disappointment

"On the net they show a swimming pool, but no swimming pool.

Not happy with bungalow, enjoy Skukuza more."

A Bit of This, A Bit of That...

"The Kruger did not fail to deliver. That said, I would like to add that the camp was a terrible disappointment... The first problem was that there was no pool - knowing that we had children with us, I would've appreciated our travel agent recommending another camp... We also stayed in chalet nr.40 and 41 - it was a bit dilapidated, and the plumbing didn't work well - with the wash basin overflowing when you flush the toilet and the grocery cupboard infested with ants...."

Kruger Park Trip - October 2011 Olifants Camp

"As with our time at Tamboti, Olifants was also incredible. The camp is just beautiful! The staff were helpful and moved us to a river view chalet as we requested. All in all, it was a great holiday."

Review of Olifants Rest Camp

"The units are pleasant if a little small. The separate units with their own verandahs and braais were a big improvement on the semidetached units of Punda Maria. We appreciated the pantry cupboard on the verandah where we could at least store food outside the sleeping area.

Please add more shelves, benches, hooks and rails in the bathrooms for toiletry bags, clean and dirty clothes etc. In addition please add shelves, hooks, rails and soap dishes in the showers.

Please supply kettles in the units.

The general camp area was pleasing and well maintained."
