Guest reviews for Pretoriuskop Restcamp

Quick and easy

"We stayed in a small hut / room with three beds. Although the room looked small, we had enough space and had a lovely stay. I liked the Pretoriuskop restcamp, and will stay there again. I loved the individual braai areas and the well stocked shop.
We had lunch at Satara, a bit disappointing, the game pie was made earlier in the day and re-heated. It left the crust soft and very chewy. Rather the kitchen should prepare it and bake it upon request (or get tips from King Pie).
All in all a great stay, we saw a lot of animals and birds, and all of the big five.
A word on the communial kitchen - as first time visitors we did not know what to expect, please indicate on the website that this actually only translates into a communial hotplate and kitchen sink. No oven, no microwave.
Regards"

Great time in KNP

"The rest cap was clean and well looked after; the staff were very efficient.

On booking in, we were told there was a conservation levy to pay which we had not been advised abou; as overseas travellers we had not budgeted for the 3 day levy."

okay

"we found the camp a little colourless / featureless. Also, although it has some large & attractive trees they are not labelled. i injured my toe when i fell into one of three holes on the lawn in front of our bungalow when we went for a walk. The toe is still bruised, swollen and painful. other than that, everything was well maintained, clean and in good condition. the pool is magnificent. I am told that P.Kop has wonderul bird life - it would be helpful if you made more of this, put up posters labelling birds found in the camp etc."

Feedback on Parks visit from 11-14 Feb 2010

"Positive Comments
Found the Park well managed, staff very friendy and helpful. Roads, both tar and gravel in a excellent condition (better than out non-toll roads)
Negative comments
You will have to re-look at your maintenance team/contract at the different camp sites This is not up to standard. Your abution blocks are you window to the camp site and if that is not in a good condition then it does not reate a good impression. This a back up with the following observatios:
Abultion Block T2 (Pretoriuskop)has 2 showers and 2 baths for females. On Sat the 13th the one shower was blocked and the second shower hot water tap is faulty. You cannot control the hot water and when my wife tried to close the tap it would not close. After lots of efford she event. got the tap closed. When she tried to bath she had the same problem with the hot water as well.In the end she left without cleaning herself.
We stayed in Hut 36. The hut was in a good condition but the door and the door frame was in a shocking condition. Please have a look at this.
I visited a ablution block close to the restautant in Lower Sabie and was very surprised to see how run-down the place looked.
At Satara I walked into the Abulution block at reception and found the following:
1. The hand dryer electric cord was hanging in the air so not working. Did not look good.
2. The middle urinal drain was put into place into the urinal by using the putty they use to seal roof scews in tin roofs. The working off was awful.
3. The one Steiner dispenser cover was missing.
4. The green tiles were repaired on one spot with white (about 1.2 meters long) polly filler and just left as such. This catches your eyes at a instance."

"Wonderful time - thank you for another great Kruger Park experience.

2 comments:

• Sunset tour - guide was great, but could have done with 2 hours instead of 3. All tired, cold and hungry for the last hour and some, but little game.

• Went back to eat at the Carvery - not great quality for the cost.
Otherwise, love the camp, the peace and the atmosphere!"

"We had a wonderful time. Problem areas were that there was no cash in the ATM in the shop and the lady behind the counter could not help us. We also wondered about the logic of renting us a bungalow with a braai but no utensils. Otherwise we had a wonderful time.Thank you"

Thinking ahead

"We always enjoy our trip to Kruger however there were some fellow caravaners at Pretoriouskop that made it very unpleasant. They were camped close to the ablution blocks and by the state of their caravan and old army tent it appeared that they had been there some time! As school holidays approached it was decided to renovate the ablution block and this caused major problems. Please could you not have waited until after the holidays?
a responce would be appreciated!"

"Had a lovely stay, overall very happy. Only one improvement on the utensils in the little outside kitchenette. The bare minimum is supplied and never had essentials like a tin opener. I feel they should equip the kitchen a little better."

lovely stay, but poor restaurant

"i recently visited the Kruger National Park and had an excellent stay. The camp was not busy and very peaceful, and waking up to the sound of a hippopotamus was a pleasure. The free roaming impala walking in and outside of the camp was peaceful to behold.

The only thing i found lacking, was the exceptionally poor service in the restaurant, having walked out once and the next day sitting for long periods before getting served, and when i was served, the waiter was a grumpy guy with no idea of how to be a good waiter. The food was good, when it finally arrived. I will definitely visit again, but next time I will bring my own food."
