Popular for Kruger Park Reservations largely in a historical context, the Punda Maria camp is situated in the Sandveld region, often referred to as the botanical garden of the Kruger National Park. The camp itself is recognised as the best opportunity to witness the elusive Nyala antelope, and bird watching in the area is without equal.

The area is more widely noted for its rich history than wildlife spotting, having been an ivory smuggler's haunt in the early 1900's. Illegal trade in labour from the Witwatersrand mines, border dodging poachers and an eventual intervention on behalf of the government are all part of the area's abundant historical setting, and guests come to soak in the remnants of this turbulent time.

The ablution facilities were clean, but concerned when its peak season that the ablution facilities will not be enough for everyone. Also in peak season the electrical points will not be enough for everyone. Also the campsites should be clearly marked so that people do not take the space up of another camper's campsite.

Generally we have been happy with our stay in Punda Maria camp. One night we slept in the tent and second night in the bungalow. Both accommodation had been clean and prepared for our stay. The food in the camp is very simple but ok. The stuff was friendly but big problem is with payment. Line usually doesn't work and they ask you for a cash. So we did so and problem started when I wanted to fill the tank of my car. Again line did not work and I was ask for a cash. I did not have enough to fill my car and our last day in the park have been spoiled. I think that people should be warn about this problem and bring a cash for payment. Regards Jozef Kolarovic

Staff were very friendly, ablutions exceptionally clean and serviced. Staff were well dressed friendly and energetic despite the heat. Thanks for a comfortable stay.
