Imbued with the spirit of MalaMala and sharing her soul, the Sable Camp is a more intimate version of the Main Camp and the choice for those seeking a more private and intimate safari. Situated at the southern end of the MalaMala Camp in a prime elevated position overlooking the Sand River and surrounding bushveld, Sable Camp accommodates a maximum of 14 guests. It may also be reserved exclusively for between 10 & 18 guests – but book early! Each of the individually decorated, spacious and comfortable suites under traditional thatching occupies an idyllic vantage point and provides a platform from which to admire the unimpeded views.

Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhinoceros - the most sought after and dangerous of the world's big game. In previous centuries it was these five species which gripped the imagination of hunters and sportsmen, drawing them to Africa to experience the blood pounding thrill of hunting and shooting "The Big Five". It is in reserves like Mala Mala where this hunting and shooting still takes place, only the hunting is done by experienced rangers and Shangaan trackers, and the shooting is done with cameras. But it does not mean that the thrill and exhilaration of encountering these animals in an open Land Rover is any less gripping.

Folk lore and legend are rich with regards to the Big Five. Encompassing beliefs such as the following: " The Great One put the animals here for us to use wisely and respect, even as we hunted them, but he knew that without fear we might lose our respect for these creatures. So he put the five here to help us remember. The lion and leopard taught us fear of the night, that only the daytime was ours. The buffalo, the elephant and the rhino taught us to fear their strength, that we might respect the strength of nature."

Some points for consideration are listed below:

THE MINISTER
We are able to make arrangements for a non-denominational minister to perform your wedding ceremony. He is based in Nelspruit and is able to travel to MalaMala on any day of the week except Sunday.

A fee will be charged for the Minister’s services which covers his travelling expenses and a donation to his church. In addition, he would require the following before performing the ceremony for you:

A meeting with you, of at least one hour, prior to the wedding
A copy of your identity book or passport
A copy of the Divorce Decree (if this is a second marriage) or a Death Certificate (if your previous spouse is deceased)
A copy of your ante-nuptial Contract.

THE CEREMONY

As stated in legislation, the wedding ceremony must be performed in a “house-like” structure. We would be able to arrange for the legal ceremony to take place in a suitable location at the camp.

Two witnesses are required for the marriage ceremony. MalaMala staff members will gladly attend should you not have witnesses of your own.

A wonderful touch, once nuptials are complete, is a shower of confetti in the form of bougainvillea leaves. In the spirit of conservation, no paper confetti is permitted.

A pre-located bush venue could be sourced for the second less formal ceremony/ reception if required.

The Shangaan staff from MalaMala will provide the choral background with traditional African wedding songs. Their voices and harmony are renowned.

Snacks are provided on a complimentary basis. Champagne is an additional charge. We will gladly furnish you with our extensive wine and champagne list.

On return to the camp, a special Boma dinner is served in the company of fellow guests and staff. If something a little more intimate is what you prefer, a private candle-lit meal may be set up on the deck of your suite.

FLOWERS

We are able to arrange the flowers for your wedding and would be pleased to obtain a quotation from a florist situated in Nelspruit.

We would require the following information from you before doing so:

The colour and size of the bridal bouquet required (if you have a preference as to the type of flowers used, please let us know).
The colour and quantity of buttonholes required
The quantity and type of floral arrangements required for the ceremony and/ or reception.

It must be remembered that MalaMala is in a remote location. Flowers which are more sensitive should be excluded, as the lengthy transfers between florist and camp could result in damaged or wilted blooms.

Seasonality must also be taken into account. Our summer months are very hot and delicate flowers stand the risk of an untimely demise.

WEDDING CAKE

The MalaMala chef is able to bake a simple chocolate or vanilla cake provided on a complimentary basis Should you provide something more elaborate, we would be happy to arrange the this on your behalf. Before obtaining a quotation from a local supplier we would require specification as to:

How many guests would be present at your wedding.
Whether a traditional wedding cake or a more simple chocolate cake is required
The colour and design preferred.

PHOTOGRAPHY

The rangers at MalaMala would be pleased to film your wedding and take photographs for you. The camera/ video recorder would be provided, but film/ video cassettes would be for your own account.

Should you prefer that the photographs and video are professionally done, we would be pleased to obtain a quotation from an audio-visual company based in Nelspruit. Please be advised that should the crew require overnight accommodation, the cost thereof would be for your own account.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

We strongly suggest that you arrive at least a day prior to the planned marriage ceremony. This will enable you to get to know the staff and to discuss any last minute concerns with the camp management.

The minister will arrive in time to meet with you over lunch on the deck. This informal meeting will allow you all to get to know each other prior to the actual ceremony.

At approximately 15h30, the “House” ceremony would be performed in the presence of 2 witnesses, or the whole wedding party. The venue would be determined based on the number of wedding guests.

You will then be transferred to a carefully chosen area in the bush in open safari vehicles where vows would be exchanged under the guidance of the minister. The Shangaan staff will sing before and after the ceremony - whilst the surrounding birds and insects provide a bushveld melody.
Snacks and champagne will be provided in the bush.

You and your guests depart on an evening game drive.
On return to the camp, a sumptuous dinner around a blazing fire would be served in the traditional African Boma,

Airlink operates a daily scheduled flight service from O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) directly into the MalaMala airfield (AAM) in the MalaMala Game Reserve (a 29-seater Jetstream 41 turboprop aircraft).

Daily, SA 8862, AAM / JNB, 12h30 / 13h35.

On arrival at the MalaMala Airfield, guests will be met by representatives from the camp and transferred by road through the reserve.

" Please DO NOT “check-through” their luggage directly to MalaMala from other international or domestic airports. It is imperative that luggage is collected from their previous flight & re-checked onto the MalaMala direct flight at O.R Tambo International Airport. Luggage checked through from other destinations will inevitably be “lost” in the system and can take up to 3 days to be re-connected with its owner.

The service may be booked through any airline reservations system operated by travel agents. The MalaMala service cannot be booked on line through the South African Airways website.

By Road:

MalaMala Game Reserve is a five and a half hour drive from Johannesburg.

Motorists from Johannesburg turn left off the N4 at Nelspruit and proceed to Hazyview along the R40 via White River.
At Hazyview turn right along the R536 towards Skukuza (Paul Kruger Gate) for 37.5 km.

At the MalaMala Game Reserve sign turn left onto a gravel road and follow the MalaMala road signs to the camp for 29km.
There is a vehicle entrance fee of R80.00 into the Sabi Sand Wildtuin, payable on arrival and the gates close at 22h00. We would appreciate it if all car arrivals telephoned the camps from Hazyview to advise of their expected arrival in approximately 90 minutes. MalaMala Tel: (013) 735 9200

By Charter:

Direct charter flights are available in to the MalaMala airstrip in chartered, pressurised aircraft. The MalaMala private airstrip boasts an all weather surface and is equipped with aeronautical communication facilities. (Click here for MalaMala Airfield facts)

The costs are dependent on the number of guests, type of aircraft requested and flying distance.

A private charter has many advantages - flight times are arranged to suit guest's requirements, check-in and luggage handling is quicker and more efficient, guests have a choice of airports in and around Johannesburg or South Africa and it is convenient for guests whose itinerary may require a transfer to a destination where direct scheduled flights are not available.

On arrival guests will be met by representatives from the camps.

By Panoramic Transfer:

An alternative to consider on the journey to and from MalaMala Game Reserve is the "Panoramic Transfer". This trip, with a qualified guide in a luxury air-conditioned microbus, takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery South Africa has to offer. In order to fully appreciate and to take in the natural beauty of the Panorama Tour one needs a full day. However for those with limited time, a half day option is available.

MalaMala Main Camp is the ideal family destination. Welcoming children of all ages, youngsters are able to participate in a holistic programme tailored to suit their needs.

With this program we intend to entertain children, but at the same time to educate them about the bush and the wildlife we share our lives with. Children will always be under the supervision of a responsible ranger while on the program, whether within the confines of the camp, or out in the bush.

The program is geared towards children aged 12 years and under. Activities will depend on the time of the year, and the number of days the children are with us in camp.

On arrival, the ranger looking after the family will assess the enthusiasm and level of independence of the children, and in collaboration with the parents and guardians, various activities will be designed to fill their next few days in the bush.

The Kiddies “Kit”

A MalaMala backpack is given to each junior ranger (between the ages of 4 and 12).

Animal Tracking

For the curious and adventurous junior ranger. Rangers will teach their charges to follow and identify various animals out in the wild by sheer virtue of their spoor markings.

Survivor Challenge

Junior rangers are taught basic survival skills, such as where to find water, what plants are good to eat, medicinal and practical uses of plants (e.g. the toothbrush and loo paper trees!). This experience is great fun – hands on and educational, while arming juniors with interesting skills to take home to envious friends!

“Read” the Bush

Juniors are taught the warning signs of dangerous animals, and first aid skills for emergency situations in the bush.

Game Walk
A short walk is conducted around the bustling Main Camp area. This is ideal for kids to learn more about the different rocks, trees, birds and nests in the wild. Children will also be taught how to track animals and identify the different spoor and droppings in the bush. Children will be escorted by an armed ranger.

Junior Chefs in the Wild

A bush breakfast enables children to learn how to make fire, and to participate in a sumptuous outdoor meal preparation.

Radio Communication

Children are able to learn the skills and etiquette of radio communication, as practiced on drives and out in the bush by the MalaMala rangers. This activity is enjoyed outside of game drive times.

Kiddies Cuisine

Special meals and “ration packs” are prepared for children both in the bush, and in camp.

Movies and More

In camp there are a range of entertaining children’s movies, wildlife movies (all filmed on MalaMala) and board games.

After Hours

Babysitters are available in the evenings if required.

The public rates are quoted in US Dollars, whilst payment may be made in any international currency. On confirmation of the reservation you may request that the reservation be converted to South African Rand at the current rate of exchange. This rate of exchange then becomes binding on both parties until final payment is made at this exchange rate. The conversion to South African Rand only applies to reservations within a 6 month period prior to travel.

• Communication costs

• Any arrival and departure passenger taxes (currently included on the Airlink air tickets)
• Entrance fees into the Sabi Sand Wildtuin if arriving by road
• Transfers from / to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and other airports & airstrips
• Transfers from / to any other camps (excluding the MalaMala Game Reserve camps)

Please note:
At MalaMala Main Camp children under 12 years of age, sharing with an adult, pay the quoted child tariff. No children of 5 years and younger are permitted in the boma for dinner, or on game drives (unless parent's have sole use of a vehicle = USD125.00 per empty seat out of 6).
A babysitting facility is available at a nominal fee.

Rattray Reserves General Terms and Conditions - Valid until 31 December 2009
1. General
1.1. In this document, Rattray Reserves shall mean:
MaIaMala Ranch (Pty) Ltd (incorporating MalaMala Camp, the Sable Camp and Rattray’s on MalaMala)
Mashatu Nature Reserve (Pty) Ltd (incorporating Mashatu Main Camp, Mashatu Tent Camp and all bona fide concessionaires)
Mount Anderson Ranch
1.2. This agreement and its interpretation shall be subject to South African Law.
1.3. All reservations will be on a pre-payment basis. Should payment not be timeously received, Rattray Reserves reserve
the right to automatically cancel such reserved accommodation.
1.4. It is an express condition when entering into a business partnership with MalaMala and Mashatu Game Reserves that our
rates are not published in either print or electronic media at a lesser value than our rack rate.
1.5. MalaMala Ranch (Pty) Ltd & Mount Anderson Ranch (Pty) Ltd : Check-in time is 12h00 and check-out time is 11h00.
Any variations on these times must be advised prior to guests’ arrival at the camps and any variations are at the sole
discretion of the Camp Manager.
1.6. Mashatu Nature Reserve (Pty) Ltd : Check-in time is 14h00 and check-out time is 12h00. Any variations on these times
must be advised prior to guests’ arrival at the camps and any variations are at the sole discretion of the Camp Manager
1.7. Transfers to and from camps and the airport/airstrips/entrance gates are by road. Transfer times are dictated by passenger
numbers and their flight variations. Please note that charges are not levied for the transfer to/from MalaMala Airfield/
Limpopo Valley Airfield to connect with scheduled flights. Any additional transfers are charged at a nominal rate per person.
Please note that we are unable to conduct transfers from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport but we are able to make
these transfer arrangements on behalf of travel companies / guests and debit accordingly.
2. Rates
2.1. All rates apply to both group and F.I.T. reservations and are quoted per person per night, inclusive of VAT.
2.2. Rattray Reserves reserve the right to amend the published rates without notice.
2.3. Rates quoted include game drives, which form an indivisible portion of the rates quoted.
2.4. Rates are quoted in US Dollars and payment is accepted in this currency. However, arrangements can be made to convert
this to SA Rand using the rates supplied to MalaMala and Mashatu by Nedbank.
2.5. Rates converted into SA Rand are only valid if all deposits are received on due date. Failing this Rattray Reserves reserve
the right to re-quote the rate or cancel the booking.
2.6. Rattray Reserves cannot be held liable for any rate fluctuations of third party suppliers whose services Rattray Reserves
have booked on behalf of travel companies / guests.
3. Children Policy
3.1 MalaMala: Children under 12 years, sharing accommodation with full paying adults, pay the quoted child tariff.
3.2 Sable Camp: Children under 12 years are not permitted.
3.3 Rattray’s on MalaMala: Children under 16 years are not permitted.
3.4 Mashatu Main Camp: Children under 12 years, sharing accommodation with full paying adults, pay the quoted adult tariff.
3.5 Mashatu Tent Camp: Children under 12 years are not permitted.
3.6 Mount Anderson Ranch: Children under 12 years are not permitted.
4. Tour Leader/Pilot/Driver/Guide Policy
4.1. Accommodation for a bona fide tour leader/pilot/driver/guide shall be in B grade accommodation.
4.2. The B grade accommodation rate is applicable. This rate is purely for accommodation/meals and does not include game
drives/other special activities. The latter shall be offered subject to availability.
5. F.I.T. Policy
5.1. No reservation is secure/confirmed until a deposit is received to secure the booking. Rattray Reserves reserve the right
to automatically release accommodation being held unless a deposit is received within the stated period for each reservation.
5.2. Rattray Reserves reserve the right to charge the following cancellation fees should a confirmed reservation be cancelled
within the following period: -
5% cancellation fee if cancelled more than 60 days prior to arrival.
25% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 60 days prior to arrival.
50% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 30 days prior to arrival.
100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 14 days prior to arrival.
5.3. All guests shall settle their extras accounts in full prior to departure from the camps.
5.4. High Season Policy:
20 December 2008 – 10 January 2009, 20 December 2009 – 10 January 2010.
Rattray Reserves reserve the right to charge the following cancellation fees should a confirmed reservation be cancelled
within the following period: -
5% cancellation fee if cancelled more than 90 days prior to arrival.
25% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 90 days prior to arrival.
100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 60 days prior to arrival.

Group Policy
6.1. Any party reserving 50% or more of the rooms at one camp, or 8 or more rooms at any of the above camps is considered
a group.
6.2. No reservation is secure/confirmed until a 10% non-refundable deposit is received to secure the booking. Two further
deposits of 25% each are required at intervals, as notified on the confirmation voucher, prior to the date of arrival – and
the full balance of all services and accommodation is required no later than one month prior to the date of arrival. Rattray
Reserves reserve the right to automatically release accommodation being held unless the required deposits are received
within the stated period.
6.3. Rattray Reserves reserve the right to charge the following cancellation fees should a confirmed reservation be cancelled
within the following period: -
10% cancellation fee if cancelled more than 180 days prior to arrival.
25% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 180 days prior to arrival.
100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 60 days prior to arrival, or no show.
6.4. Final numbers for groups must be confirmed 60 days prior to arrival after which time any reduction in numbers will incur
cancellation fees in accordance with the group policy. Refer 6.3.
6.5. All accommodation and transfer costs must be pre-paid no less than 30 days prior to arrival. All extras must be settled
direct at the camp by the clients, prior to their departure.
6.6. Rattray Reserves reserve the right to limit the number of single room rates at each camp.
6.7. High Season Policy:
20 December 2008 - 10 January 2009, 20 December 2009 – 10 January 2010.
Confirmation of groups over the high season period is strictly at the discretion of Rattray Reserves' management.
7. Cancellations
7.1. Cancellation fees are calculated on the nett rate per person.
7.2. Should cancelled accommodation be resold, cancellation fees will be refunded less a 5% handling charge except in the
case of groups where a 10% handling charge will be levied.
7.3. Please ensure that your clients are covered by a travel insurance policy to protect against unforeseen cancellation,
delays, injury, loss or any other prejudice of whatsoever cause.
7.4. All reservation amendments or cancellations are valid only if advised and accepted in writing by facsimile or e-mail.
8. Important Notes
8.1. Failure on the part of the guest / travel company to comply timeously or at all with any of the terms and conditions contained
herein shall entitle Rattray Reserves, at its sole discretion, regardless of reservation requirements and/or payments already
received, to cancel/refuse to accept the guests / travel companies reservation in respect of group/s or individual/s in
question, unless satisfactory alternative arrangements are made by the guest / travel company.
8.2. It is to be noted that this agreement is between Rattray Reserves and the party making the reservation and no leniency
or indulgence will be granted by Rattray Reserves in the event of the group/s or individual/s not timeously performing their
corresponding duties to the party making the reservation.
8.3. Please note that should Rattray Reserves receive a firm, deposited booking over the dates when the guest / travel company
is holding space and prior to the guest / travel company forwarding the necessary deposits to secure the reservation, the
guest / travel company will be requested to release the space he/she is holding, or to forward an immediate non-refundable
deposit on all space held, to secure the space.

9.3. All bank charges are the responsibility of the guest / travel company making the relevant bank transfer into one of the
Rattray Reserves bank accounts.
9.4. Nedbank exchange rates, as supplied to Rattray Reserves, on the date of agreement will apply for conversion purposes.

9.5. Master Card, Visa and American Express are accepted for foreign currency payments in respect for prepaid reservations
only.
9.6. Master Card and Visa are accepted in Rands and Pula respectively at all our camps. American Express is accepted at all
camps but only in Rands whilst Diners Club is only accepted at MalaMala Game Reserve.
9.7. All credit cards require a letter of authorisation with the cardholder’s signature to debit same.
9.8. Alternatively a direct bank transfer is required. Please note any applicable bank charges are the responsibility of the
travel company / guest. See 9.1 for banking details.
9.9. Notwithstanding clause 9.10, cheques for accommodation cannot be accepted less than 15 days prior to the guests arrival
in camp.
9.10. Full pre-payment of accommodation and transfers should be received a minimum of 30 days prior to the client’s arrival.
9.11. Payments must be received by Rattray Reserves on the dates stipulated, failing which Rattray Reserves reserve the right
to collect payment directly from the guest on arrival. Delays in postal services and mislaid payments are the responsibility
of the travel company.
9.11. Cheques are not accepted at any of the camps.
10. Variation/Waiver
10.1. Variation or waiver of the above Terms and Conditions is at the sole discretion of Rattray Reserves management.
