Satara Restcamp

"Too busy and bungalos too close to each other. Lots of animals though."

Our trip and stay at Satara

"Good sightings drive up to Satara, huts clean, chopping board had to be scrubbed with Jik. Basic cutlery and crockery ok. Lovely new fridge! Stupid dustbin in kitchen but lovely that we saw the 2 honey badgers come to eat out of our bin and the big black bins they knock over early! Beds comfortable, clean recently re-tiled. New outdoor furniture, lighting good in hut improvement to last years Letaba! Did not try restaurant but movie evening was good. Renovating our circle so bit irritated with workmen and knocking during day. Good drives good sightings. Think Camp shops really improved at lot, well done. Pls catch the people who kill our Rhinos! Efficient entrance to park, new drive through system."

Incredible experience

"This trip was everything we hoped it would be and more! We were lucky enough to see a lion kill on a night drive and a large herd of buffalo. The overall number of animals we saw was incredible and worth the money we spent on the accommodation in Satara. The price of the organized wildlife drives was very reasonable indeed and the night drive is a must. We mainly did our own self-drive safari though. The only negative of the experience was the communal cooking facilities. This was only 2 hot plates for what must have been over 10 huts and so massively inadequate. There is a braai for each hut though and so we ended up having packed lunches and then a braai for dinner. Could not recommend enough for wildlife spotting."

Satara Restcamp

"We had a very enjoyable stay at the Satara Rest Camp recently. All the Park staff were so friendly and helpful. The facilities in the rest camp are very nice and adequate for everything you may need.

I only have one complaint. We went to go eat in The Tree restaurant one night and we were appalled by the service. As South African Citizens we actually were ashamed at the level of service the people and especially the foreigners were receiving. The waiters hardly spoke any English, and were not even paying attention to the people coming in at the door. A lot of people were just standing around waiting for some one to help them. The waiters also had no clue what was going on on the menu.

We were prepared to pay high prices as we know they cater for the foreigners, but I was shocked to see what you get for the money you pay. The steaks were more like minute steaks and yet they still charge you for a proper size steak in any other restaurant. The Pizza was the worst! You pay R70 for a tiny pizza that is topped with Cheddar cheese and NOT Mozarella, I must be honest it was the worst pizza I had ever had! I don't mind paying the high prices, but then at least serve decent food! And you must not for one moment think the foreigners don't know that the food does not taste good. We spoke to a few of them and they were all very disappointed with the restaurant.

I really hope you take this letter seriously and give some attention to the restaurant, as I can guarantee you it will make a huge difference to everyone's experience at the Satara Camp.

Kind regards,
Christi"

This was only the beginning

"Hi There

Let me start by saying thanks to the lady who arranged everything for us at Accomodation Direct, absolutely outstanding service. Then the friendly staff at Satara camp on our arrival, they made us feel at home the moment we stepped in to the reception door. The bungalow was very clean and accommodated us with a mattress for our daughter, and was ready by the time we got to our bungalow. We saw all the wildlife we could possibly hope for bar the leopard. What an amazing place, Satara rest camp is."

Satara Restcamp

"For the first time Satara camp was not that good. There was little or no water for most of our stay in the bathrooms and was not as clean as other times, specially ladies site. The park was good. Two dead rhinos next to Olifants road.
This was shocking. Please check the field staff
for maybe inside jobs."

Camping at Satara

"We had a very pleasant 6 days in Satara. The ablutions are not what they used to be 10 years ago, but still acceptable. Satara is a very good camp to stay for animal watching. Overall very enjoyable."

Only 1 dissapointment

"The park, staff & facilities are superb. Well done! I strongly recommend it to everyone. One huge dampner on our trip was getting a R1500 fine for putting out head out the sunroof to view game. Like everyone else, we didn't read the rules, and got punished badly. We drove at the speed limit, picked up litter when we found it, etc, etc, but got the shock of our lives to get this fine. I strongly recommend that at the entrance, the staff tell you to read the rules and say the fines for disobeying are very high; or point out any rules that everyone would normally disobey. We specifically went in a car with a sun roof so we could see animals...totally unaware that it was illegal!"

Experience Spoilt

"The service was excellent but was spoilt when we left Kruger Gate at approx 9am on 15 June. The lady at the gate was surly, rude and arrogant. We were all furious. It would be in your interests to remove her from a position which interfaces with the public."

Mid-Winter Getaway

"Very nice camp and great after renovations. Clean bungalows and public areas with friendly. Although more modern than 30 years ago, it brought back fond memories from my childhood as they kept some of the old traditions and kept the "bush" ambiance."

Satara Restcamp

"Really disappointed to arrive at Satara and find we were not booked in and the money had been taken from our account. Thought the amount of R850.00 per night was excessive. Accommodation was not up to scratch, old sink in the bedroom, no sink in bathroom for toilet. We will not go back to Satara."

Accommodation for the Disabled

"I have one suggestion to make with regards to the accommodation fo a wheelchair user. I had difficulty to park my car so that there was enough space to get out into my chair on level ground. The parking bay should be a bit wider and there should be a paved area from the parking area to the braai and the dustbin. I had grat difficulty negotiating the curb stone from the parking area to the gravel area in front of the Rondavel. The ground is clay and when wet, not only tends to stick to the wheels, but also makes for moving around when braaing, a bit difficult."

Best ever

"We saw three cheetahs together and 18 lions over the week period. Seeing the Honey badger on our way out of the Park was a treat. The camp and the staff was as always friendly and efficient. You will see us next year again."
