Shingwedzi
"Fortunately we were not flooded out like the lower regions of the park. Although we had a fair amount of wind and rain the stay was enjoyable. Our only complaint, particularly because of the high temps 27 to 40 degrees C was the fact that the swimming pool was closed for repairs."

"Most camps were above average, but I have to mention that three of the camps we were not impressed with at all. At Lower Sabie, the staff comes strolling through chatting at the top of their voices scratching through the bins for finds? Most campers talk softly and keep the whole camp quiet but not the staff. Is there no way that they can walk around. And this finding food etc in the bins is just too much. At both Letaba and Shingwedizi the we could her the staff village playing loud music, dogs barking it really just spoils the whole experience. Thought domestic animals were not allowed in the park? All the other camps did not have these problems. Are these just badly management camps? The the swimming pool did not work for almost two weeks and the staff I felt, and a lot of other campers did not do anything to speed up the repair, just shrugged their shoulder and said they do not know."

"The level of service has seriously deteriorated since 2010 to such an extent that the remarks book at reception is riddled with complaints - we get the feeling that the park management is reluctant to take action or otherwise incompetent to manage effectively"

"A little disappointed that we didn't get to see the Rhino and Leopard. The stay overall was great. The camp was nice and clean, but I do think the prices of the store is outrageous."

Had a great time.
"Our family had a great time at the Kruger. A few things looked like they needed further attention. Toilets needed to be cleaned more often, sometimes they looked terrible. We kept on having to pay extra money at each site we stayed at..frustrating as I was led to believe we had paid fully for the entire trip. Overall though, I would say it was an experience to remember, thank you Kruger park and all the staff. By the way, the staff we really fantastic.."

3 sightings of endangered birds
"Our stay at Shingwedzi was good. Surprisingly there were not as many people as we anticipated - but it was still full and yet very quiet from a noise level perspective - which was awesome.
We had a clean campsite, clean ablutions in spite of rains - and we all know how muddy ablutions get during the rainy periods.
On one trip up to Pafuri picnic spot and Crooks Corner we had 3 individual sightings of Southern Ground Hornbills with chicks. We love interacting with the researchers in the park and being able to game spot with a purpose - so frantic photos were taken to try and look for identification rings to see if our birds were new discoveries for those collecting the data. We also came across 4 cheetahs interested in an Impala Ram herd. On our return besides all the other wonderful game - we were rewarded with the 4 cheetahs eating their impala.
My only suggestion this time is that more hooks are placed on the backs of the doors in the bathrooms and toilets - to keep clothes and towels off the ground during shower times.
Thanks
Karen"

"Loved the fact that there weren't so many people. Spent a fair amount of time around the pool. Lovely setting. Ladies bathroom a bit congested due to other ablution being under construction. On top of it, one of the toilets stopped working and there was water all over the floor.Ran out of toilet paper in the ladies bathroom. Had elephant come right up to the rest camp fence. Very sad to leave. Ice machine was a blessing! Got help from office staff regarding an email that had to be signed and faxed. They were helpful."

Camping at Shingwedzi
"The staff were hard at work, cleaning up the camp ground at 07h00. The ablutions were very clean and well maintained. The camping area was tidy and very pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay at Shingwedzi and wish that we could have had more time there.
Loved the swimming pool which was very well maintained and clean.
Found the shop not up to the standard of the others in the Park - rather poorly stocked."

"I really want to bring it under your attention that I could not miss the service we got from the staff at the entry gates and the staff in the camp stores. It has always been bad service but this time I was stunned on the service I received, well done in this matter. Shingwedzi is a very nice camp to stay in, quit and peaceful and the night drive was wonderful!"

"Camp was in good setting and staff very helpful. Accommodation okay but slightly overpriced. Cooking and crockery very basic and some crockery items in our bungalow were missing e.g. cups for drinking out of so we had to buy some from the shop."

"Shop needs a revamp. Front office staff were unsure of times and availability of guided trips and unwilling to find out info. Our feeling was that more emphasis needs to be placed on the needs of the visitor / tourist."

"Bungalow was really quite small and extra mattress that we had booked were not there.(We got it eventually). Bungalow seemed to be quite old, should be renovated. Restaurant choice disappointing. Supermarket choice bad - eg. only one type of cheese and it was already mouldy."

"Shingwedzi is very tired! The restaurant and areas around it are badly maintained and urgently need upgrading if we want to retain a truly international standard. Wildlife is fantastic, with great sitings, especially birds, although the vulture population is disappointingly and worryingly low. Really enjoyed the drives along rivers."

"The quality of service is not acceptable: 1.The restaurant servers talk loud with each other in close proximity to the guests.
2. There is bird poop on the restaurant chairs. 3. There was a cleaning bucket with dirty water and rags next to our restaurant table in Satara. 4. The people in the reception offices are very slow and after a long day of driving you don't want to wait to get checked in. 5. The building construction quality is evident, however, the maintenance neglect is very visible. We go to Kruger every year and this is the second time we got sick from the food there."
