Important items to bring along include:
• A reliable, up to date map of the area
• Water, and a water bottle
• A hat and sunscreen
• Comfortable and sturdy hiking boots or shoes
It is important to keep in mind that Table Mountain National Park and its associated area within the Western Cape constitute a Mediterranean climate: typically dry summers, with short, mild winters which while cool are relatively mild. The infamous Cape Town South Easter has a strong presence during the summer months, coupled with the high altitude of the mountain and outlying areas, mean that a trip into the park can often be impeded by microclimates (pockets of weather entirely distinct to that of the city at large). With this in mind, it is advisable that travelers bring provisions for any and every eventuality.
