Tamboti Tented Camp

"When we got to the Park we were told that Tamboti was flooded and there were no fences as the Timbavati River came down in full force and flattened some of the tents and some stoves and fridges and bedding were also washed away. We went to look and the devastation was everywhere to be seen. It will truly take months to get Tamboti back to what it was. We were very disappointed and could not understand why we were not notified at least. We were moved to Orpen Gate into a chalet and it was a wonderful weekend. The chalets are stunning and we loved the small camp. We will try again later to go to Tamboti once it has been fixed up. We were also very restricted as many roads were closed, but we understood and did not really plan to drive around, we only wanted to sit on the 'stoep of our tent'. So we ended up spending most of our time on the stoep of our chalet. It was quiet and peaceful.
Thank you,
Louisa."

Tamboti Tented Camp

"We had a really good holiday. 2 things that did annoy me were:
1. At all the rest camps there are signs regarding saving water and hanging towels up. Yet there were many toilets that were permanently running water from the cistern into the bowl.

2. When I went to hand my key in at Skukuza, there was no one at reception. Another guest and I stood there waiting. A gentleman walked into the office, put some papers down and walked out the office, straight past us and out the door. He did not greet us, or ask if we needed assistance. I asked him where to hand or key in, and he replied in the box and pointed outside. He was not friendly at all. Kruger is meant to be a world class establishment. This kind of unfriendly service (and lack of service) is not acceptable."

Tamboti Tented Camp

"This comment is relevant to Tshokwane picnic spot. We arrived there at the morning of 4 January to find that the HWB's are so filthy that you did not want to wash your hands in any one of them. Three urinals were blocked and actually overflowing. The next day we found it in the same condition accept that only one urinal was blocked and overflowing. I generally found the level of service delivery is declining especially maintenance."

Game viewing from our veranda

"My husband and I had a lovely stay at Tamboti. The units are just far enough from each other to feel like you are all alone in the bushveld. The visitors we had from our veranda were Elephants, Waterbuck, Tortoise, Monkeys, Squirels, Bushbuck and Hyenas. We would definitely return. Thank you very much."

Tamboti

"The tent at Tamboti was good - however we experienced a rather big storm one night - high wind and torrential rain, which made our stay a little stressful. Because of all the rain it was difficult to operate in the kitchen area on the deck as everything was very wet. Also the resident honey badger overturned the bin each night - making quite a mess! But a pretty camp - not much to see as the river was dry, so no game in the immediate vicinity - we had to drive out of the camp to see anything."

Lovely stay

"Camp site was very nice. No complaints there. We took a 20:00 game drive, complete waste of money. The guide did not answer all our questions, he did not seem to be all that clued-up. He did not always take a good look at the animals and once called a "Blou wildebees" a rabbit. We have done a few night drives at the Kruger Park, every time says never again, never again!"

Kruger Park Trip - October 2011 Tamboti Tented Camp

"Our trip to Kruger was great. the camps were in good condition and the staff were friendly and helpful. We saw great game (although I believe that to be more luck than planning) and generally had a very relaxing time. Tamboti was well kept and the tents were clean."

Review of Tamboti Tent Camp

"The unit was spacious and well appointed for two people. I think that trying to fit in four people with the use of the sleeper couch would make it a squeeze.

There were missing utensils and crockery and cutlery, in particular our unit was short of knives. In addition larger cereal bowls should be provided, along with some serving dishes and platters, serving spoons, graters, and other kitchen utensils. There is also a need for an oven and/or microwave. There were no dishtowels in our unit. There were also missing bolt locks on the kitchen cupboards. These cupboards all need to be secured with the baboon and honey badger visitors.

There was a great deal of litter in the grounds of the campsite – under the tent decks, along the roads and paths. This is unacceptable in a conservation/bush resort and unsightly.

Overall the camp is very pleasant and we enjoyed the more secluded arrangement of the units and the small size of the camp. It felt more like the bush experience than any of the other camps, in which we felt removed from the sounds of the bush in particular.

We were delighted to be visited by the honey badger at our unit the one night as we love seeing the small and nocturnal animals that are seldom seen. And this is where Tabotie was special in that we could see the creature up close from the comfort of our unit as we were able to see a bush buck and several hyenas just outside the fence from the deck of unit. However we believe that the honey badgers are ferocious and strong animals. While we don’t think that it should be removed or discouraged from the camp, to contrary it should be encouraged, however we strongly recommend that some warning is given to guests about being cautious around this what looks like a sweet cuddly (and is anything but) visitor.

The honey badger also toppled over the big green rubbish bins every night. Perhaps a more secure bin arrangement should be set up. This might also help with the litter problem mentioned above."

Great Stay

"We truly enjoyed our stay, and the kids loved it. I do think care should be taken to develop a Smoking/Non Smoking questionnaire and to follow through with the venue."

"The tents were very nice and well equipped. The view from our deck would have been great if they would just trim the bush in front a little bit."

Tamboti Tented Camp

"We loved the camp and the tent. We were very upset about the shooting of a leopard by a game ranger in the camp on our last night. We will be sending a letter to SAN Parks about this incident."

Tented Camp Experience

"Our family loved the experience of sleeping in the open with just a tent and fence between us and nature's most dangerous predators. The facilities are very good and the overall experience was fantastic. Will be going back."

Tamboti Tented Camp

"Tamboti tent camp was a very pleasant experience. The dustbin(s) was a problem, since it is not "animal proof". The honey badger comes every night to check (knock over) for food in the dustbins and the monkeys during daytime, which makes a big mess. Otherwise very pleasant."
