Tamboti Tented Camp - Wildlife & Vegetation
(51
reviews)
The drive from
Orpen to
Satara often boasts herds of zebra and wildebeest, giraffe, impala, warthog and elephant.
Towards the north Timbavati river and
Olifants Camp, lion, cheetah and leopard are also likely to be spotted.
Tall acacias and marula trees inhabit the grounds alongside red bush willows, and small rock gardens overgrown with aloes and Barberton daisies dot the areas between huts.
The
Tamboti Tented Camp and its outlying areas are good places to see the nomadic Senegal (Lesser Black-winged) Plover, Montagu's Harrier, White-faced and Comb (Knob-billed) Ducks, Little Grebe (Dabchick) and Lesser Moorhen. Additionally, African Rail and African Crake, Saddle-billed Wooly-necked, Open-billed (African Openbill), Marabouw, and White and Black storks, as well as Tawny Raptors(breeding outside of the camp), African Fish (at Rabelais Pan), Wahlbergs, Lesser Spotted, Steppe, African Hawk and Brown Snake Eagles, Bateleur, Black-shouldered Kite, Gabar and Dark Chanting Goshawk, Little Sparrowhawk and Amur and Red-footed Falcons (Eastern and Western Redfooted Kestrels), as well as numerous other, less regularly spotted bird varieties.
