Tamboti Tented Camp

(51 reviews)

Please note: Tamboti Tented Camp will be temporarily closed until the end of July 2012.

The Timbavati river bed, generally dry throughout the year, provides a great setting at the western boundary of the Kruger Park for Tamboti Tented Camp. One of the park's most popular caravan and camping sites, the stilted safari tents are complemented by the area's tall Marula and Tamboti trees, which secure the camp’s ambiance of tranquil seclusion.

The Kudu and Black Rhino are regular guests in the area, as both have a special affinity for the bitter leaves of the Tamboti tree, which is an acquired taste among some of the Park’s animals. Many other animals can be viewed from the comfort of an open vehicle safari - the first choice of activity for anyone staying in the bush. While these game drives offer the opportunity to spot the Big Five, avid birders might enjoy spending time at the bird hide at Tamboti camp or one of the nearby dams in the hopes of spotting one of the many species of bird that frequent the area, including Marabouw Storks, African Fish Eagles and the Dark Chanting Goshawk.

See what our guests are saying

When we got to the Park we were told that Tamboti was flooded and there were no fences as the Timbavati River came down in full force and flattened some of the tents and some stoves and fridges and bedding were also washed away. We went to look and the devastation was everywhere to be seen. It will truly take months to get Tamboti back to what it was. We were very disappointed and could not understand why we were not notified at least. We were moved to Orpen Gate into a chalet and it was a wonderful weekend. The chalets are stunning and we loved the small camp. We will try again later to go to Tamboti once it has been fixed up. We were also very restricted as many roads were closed, but we understood and did not really plan to drive around, we only wanted to sit on the 'stoep of our tent'. So we ended up spending most of our time on the stoep of our chalet. It was quiet and peaceful. Thank you, Louisa.
