Tsitsikamma National Park - Most popular Camps
A region of incredible beauty along South Africa’s famed Garden Route, the Tsitsikamma National Park is an area of spectacular scenery and forms part of
South African National Parks
. Towering cliffs overlook the lush forest canopy below where Fynbos Heath (covering approximately 30 percent of the park) and Proteas carpet the forest floor. Combining terrestrial, coastal or marine ecosystems, the park encompasses an 80km ecological mosaic of winding ravines along the coast between the rolling Tsitsikamma Mountains and the warm Indian Ocean.
Tsitsikamma takes its name from the Khoisan phrase for "place of abundant water". Its National Park is Africa's oldest and largest marine reserve and one of the largest Marine Protected Areas in the world, making it an integral area of marine fauna and flora conservation in South Africa. There are a number of exciting activities in the region and plenty for the curious traveler to see. Enjoy walks and hikes through the extraordinary forests and when adventure calls, take to the air on a canopy tour and see giant ferns and Outeniqua Yellowwoods from above. The famous Otter Trail, well-known amongst hikers, offers a challenging hike alongside ragged kloofs and waterfalls along a strip of impressive shoreline, and through lush indigenous forests.
The
Storms River Mouth Rest Camp
is situated in the eastern area of the Tsitsikamma park, resting along 80 kilometers of dramatic shoreline, between the sloping forests of the park and the restless breakers of the Indian Ocean. Guests can choose from a wide selection of comfortable accommodation options, including, but not limited to chalets, forest huts, oceanette cabins and family cottages.
Nature's Valley Rest Camp
is a haven for bird watchers and hikers alike, but also offers canoeing and a pristine beach for guests to use at their leisure. With 45 campsites and 10 cabins nestled in the heart of the forest, accommodation is simple and rustic, allowing guests to experience the pleasure of living close to nature.
