Bee Eater
The instantly recognisable splash of colour that is the Bee Eater is a welcome sight during any bird watcher's time in the park. These nimble bird is specially adapted for the task from which it derives its name: with a specially curved bill, strong at the tip, and its incredibly fast movements, the Bee Eater is regularly seen snatching its prey directly out of the air! Seizing the upper hand as a result of this swift strike, the bird then smashes its meal against a rock, an aggression belied by its small stature and colourful appearance.
These birds are described as extremely social, often sitting in groups or pairs, and regularly seasonally monogamous - so keep an eye out for more if you spot one!
