Bontebok

South Africa has become a prime holiday destination in recent years mainly due to its scintillating game reserves, nature parks, and wildlife centres. Every year many travelers flock to these shores eager to enjoy an African adventure like no other while exploring and discovering the many reasons that make this country a breathtaking paradise of abundant wildlife and stunning scenery.

The world-famous Kruger National Park is an awe-inspiring example of what has made South Africa so popular amongst foreigners. With beautiful nature surrounding the park, a wide variety of animals to view, and a staff of highly specialized guides and experts on hand to assist guests, the Kruger Park provides the ultimate in a safari expedition and promises to be the highlight of your visit.

The Bontebok is one of the special members of the Antelope family here at the Kruger Park; till recently, this striking creature was very much endangered, but through a careful conservation plan drawn up by the Park, the rarest antelope in the world has managed to survive. The Bontebok’s physical features set it apart from the rest of its species as it sports an almost deep purple-red fur coat with soft hair and a sheen kind of complexion to it. The animal has a white tail and both sexes have well-developed ringed horns that form an angular pattern. These social animals are inclined to reside in small territories, but their occupation will usually last their life times, and they tend to herd in small groups with around 3 other members. Visitors to the Kruger Park, hoping for a glimpse of this beautiful antelope, are likely to find it grazing in Fynbos areas or short grass plains. It has a very gregarious nature and is active during the day with visitors likely to view them during a game drive or safari walk.
