Cape Winelands

Travelling an hour or so eastwards from Cape Town, visitors will encounter South Africa’s largest wine producing region – the picturesque Cape Winelands. The main areas, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, nestle in large valleys surrounded by spectacular rocky mountain ranges. They offer not only stellar wines and grand old Cape Dutch estates, but also many of South Africa’s finest restaurants. Quaint smaller towns and villages in the area, such as Elgin, McGregor and Robertson, have developed a worthy reputation for outstanding wines.

Part of the charm of visiting the Cape Winelands is the opportunity to explore the farm stalls, small boutique estates, and cheese and olive farms lying off the beaten track.

There is a plethora of accommodation options, ranging from backpackers to luxurious manor houses and boutique hotels.
