Overview

Arrive at Kapama Private Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger area. With vast herds of predators the reserve is a wilderness haven. Amongst the 40 mammal species resident at Kapama Private Game Reserve are the infamous Big 5 – the elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Add to that giraffe, hippo, cheetah and hyena! You are taken care of from the minute you are picked up at the airport right up until the moment you are dropped off on the last day and bid your farewell.

Itinerary

Day 1:
Johannesburg to Kapama Private Game Reserve

We arrange your air transfer from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit with a short transfer reaching Kapama Private Game Reserve in time to freshen up and have something to eat. Head out with your ranger and tracker for the afternoon game drive through the reserve.

En route, you’ll stop for a sundowner drink and will have a chance to stretch your legs as you watch the sun set over the distant peaks of the Drakensberg mountains.

As darkness falls, the nocturnal animals of the bush come out. The skilled tracker will scan the landscape using a spotlight, which illuminates animals’ eyes. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge. Arrival is at the lodge is usually around 7pm, allowing time to freshen up before enjoying a sumptuous dinner.

Day 2:
Full day in the reserve (all meals included)

Today you will rise between 5am and 5h30am have tea or coffee and rusks before setting off on a morning game drive. The cooler morning temperatures mean that the game in the reserve is often more active, and the softer light makes for great images.

Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast, after which you will have time to relax by the pool and dip into a good book, or enjoy the rest of the lodge’s facilities.

After a decadent high tea, you will head out on your afternoon game drive, which may continue beyond dusk, then your day will invariably end with a good dinner and some reminiscing about the day’s sightings.

Day 3:
Kapama Private Game Reserve to Johannesburg (breakfast included)

Today will be another early start for a final morning game drive and, hopefully, some memorable sightings to cap off your stay. After the drive enjoy breakfast at your lodge and then be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Johannesburg to fly home or continue on your travels elsewhere.

Additional accommodation before and at the end of the tour can be arranged for extra cost

"What an amazing place" Everything you hoped it would be and more. The rooms are terrific, immaculately clean, well decorated with huge bathrooms. Free wifi, coffee service and a refrigerator. The toiletries are made in South Africa and smell amazing, they are available for sale in the gift shop for a unique souvenir. The food was good, if not often spectacular. The real reason you are here is for the Game Drives and they are stellar. Twice a day for almost three hours you are out in the bush with your tracker and guide. The big 5 spotted the first night, lions, leopards, cape buffalo, elephants, and rhino. It is just the best place ever. - Roslyn

We have a spacious and well-appointed room looking out onto the bush. The facilities and in particular the excellent spa are top class. The food is wonderful and generous and the staff welcoming and helpful. The game ranger is well informed and knowledgeable and we have seen lion close to their kill, buffalo, and rhino (plus many others) on our first day. Wonderful holiday. - Jenny
